This is a professionally framed and double-matted poster print of "Surf Riders Waikiki" by Kerne Erickson — from his celebrated Hawaii collection, depicting late 1920s Waikiki surfers on their enormous solid-wood longboards, a commissioned travel poster for the Los Angeles Steamship Company. Produced 2012, framed in a faux bamboo wood frame, double matted, ready to hang. One available.

Kerne Erickson's Hawaii collection is one of the most successful retro travel poster series of the modern era — vibrant, saturated, immaculately composed images that capture Hawaii at its most cinematic and romantic, inspired by the golden age of steamship and airline travel posters. This particular print depicts the early 20th-century surfing culture of Waikiki, when local surfers — many of them Native Hawaiian — rode 11-foot solid wooden boards and sometimes offered rides to tourists, long before surfing became the global phenomenon it is today. The poster was originally a commission for the Los Angeles Steamship Company, the mark visible lower right.

Although Erickson's work looks thoroughly vintage, the Hawaii collection was produced in the early 2000s with its first exhibition in 2006 — making this a contemporary collectible in the retro travel poster tradition rather than a vintage piece.
